GEORGE CLAYTON (1928-2010)
The League is very sad to have to report the death of Meritorious Service Award Winner George Clayton, who passed away peacefully on August 31st.
Alan McDougall has penned the following:-
After a successful time between the sticks for Wickham Market, George joined Fonnereau Athletic in 1953/54, his great friend Bob Coleman, persuading the talented keeper to join them. George played first team and reserve football for Fonnereau. In 1958/59 George turned his hand to managing and coaching, with the newly-formed Fonnereau Minor side, that ten years later became the "A" side and took the IDL Division 5 title at the first attempt in the late 60s.
More success followed, resulting in George progressing to involvement with Fonnereau Reserves, then the 1st team. An invaluable stalwart that every Club needs, attending to all those countless tasks that need to be done, George received numerous "Clubman of the Year" awards at Fonnereau, eventually being made a Life Member.
In 1989, George was awarded the prestigious Meritorious Service Award by the SIL, in recognition of the service given to local football by this quiet, unassuming man, where fairplay with dignity was uppermost in everything he did. Personal circumstances then led to George needing to spend his time at home, looking after his beloved wife Elsie.
In later years, his love for the game took him to Sidegate Avenue to watch his newly-adopted team, Ransomes Sports FC, where he was made Club President in 2006 and latterly, Club Patron.
A true gentleman, who will be sadly missed.

SALVATION ARMY SEEK ASSISTANT MANAGER
Salvation Army Football Club are looking for a non playing First Team Assistant Manager to aid Danny Reynolds in his tasks.
While the role is initially as an Assistant, Reynolds will be taking a pre arranged break from his duties in January 2011 and his duties will therefore be the responsibility of the successful applicant.

SATURDAY IN THE SIL
Achilles are the early leaders of the Senior Division with Old Newton United and Woodbridge Athletic the other two sides with maximum points from their opening two matches.
Mixed fortunes for the three new SIL Clubs in their opening matches today. Sproughton United beat Aldeburgh Town Reserves 2-1, Kesgrave Kestrels drew 2-2 at Sproughton Sports Reserves but FC Adhara lost 4-0 at home to Sizewell Associates Reserves.

FRAMLINGHAM GET BYE IN FA VASE
Framlingham Town have received a bye in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Vase.
In the Second Qualifying Round on September 18th they will be away to either Brantham Athletic or Stowmarket Town.
If successful in that match they will be away to either Godmanchester Rovers or Eynesbury Rovers in the First Round Proper on October 2nd.
