TOUCHLINE SPORTS CUP UPDATE

TOUCHLINE SPORTS CUP UPDATE

An 89th minute goal from Sam Marsden gave Division 2 Sporting '87 a famous 1-0 victory over defending league champions Grundisburgh in the 4th Round of the Touchline Sports Cup.

Grundisburgh had won their last 14 matches and their chance of a League, Touchline Sports Cup and Suffolk Senior Cup treble has now gone.

Sporting's reward is a home quarter final tie against Achilles, the team that knocked them out of the competition last season.

Suffolk Junior Cup semi finalists Westerfield United, relegated from the Senior Division last season, knocked out Wickham Market, promoted to the Senior Division last season but Division 3 Waterside's unbeaten start to the season finally came to an end at East Bergholt United.

Achilles, holders Crane Sports, Haughley United and Woodbridge Athletic all won their all-Senior Division matches and Wenhaston United won the all-Division 1 tie 6-2 at Henley Athletic. Richard Idle scored an 11 minute hat-trick for Wenhaston.

It was the first time for five seasons that all 4th Round ties have been played on the due date, but that was only possible by switching the Woodbridge Athletic tie v Ipswich Athletic tie to Bourne Vale because of waterlogging on the Rock Barracks pitch.

The draw for the quarter finals (to be played on February 11th) is:-

Crane Sports v. Wenhaston United
East Bergholt United v. Westerfield United
Haughley United v. Woodbridge Athletic
Sporting '87 v. Achilles
