Club History |
Although recorded references of football being played in Wenhaston dates back to 1644, it was not until 1898 that our Football Club was formed, and it was not until 1929 that the name WENHASTON UNITED FC was settled upon. Before then, we were known as Wenhaston Rovers, Wenhaston Old Boys, Wenhaston & Blyford United, and Wenhaston Wesley Guild. Our Club fields two mens sides every Saturday in the Metaltec Suffolk and Ipswich Football League system. The First Team (sponsored by Benchmark Carpentry & Joinery) are managed by former Goalkeeper Alan Wagner and compete in Division 2, whereas the Reserve side (sponsored by Ivan.J.Bremner Haulage) are managed by former midfield dynamo Trevor Tompkins and compete in Division 4. Our home ground is at Wenhaston Playing Field, which is situated down the drive off Hall Road behind the Primary School. Following substantial fundraising throughout the 1980's, our new Pavillion was completed in 1988, and in recent years it has been refurbished in keeping with our clubs own high standards. Visiting sides can expect a Hot Shower after the game, and hopefully join us for some food and a pint in our well stocked bar after the game.
