Club History |
The club was re-formed in 1981 by St Audrys hospital workers David Spink, Andy Scott and Mark Rattle and played a few friendlies that year. In 1982 they became members of the SIL, starting off in Division 8. In that first year Melton were runners-up, then proceeded to win Divisions 7, 6, 5 and 4 in consecutive years. The following year they gained promotion from Division 3, then won Divisions 2 and 1 to become a Senior side 9 years after re-forming. During this successful era Melton had numerous Cup runs in the McNeil (now Omnico) Cup beating many sides from higher divisions, including three Senior sides in the Cup run of 1988. Melton reached the semi-finals of the competition on five occasions, finally reaching the final in 1991 where they lost to Grundisburgh. Melton stayed in the Senior Division for three seasons before being relegated in 1994. They won Division 2 in 2000, gaining promotion back to the Senior Division the following year. Melton’s crowning moment came in May 2007 when they won the Omnico Cup.
